6/11/19 Do you use your own database and you want to use it for storing data from a Mervis-running Unipi PLC? Thanks to the new SSCP-SQL Bridge application, you can now easily do so!

By default, all Unipi Neuron and Axons programmable logic controllers are delivered with a license for using the Mervis DB cloud database. If for some reason, you don't wish to use the Mervis DB, you can now use an easy alternative solution in the form of our new SSCP-SQL Bridge application.

This SW daemon-based application is designed to set up a two-way connection between an Unipi PLC running the Mervis SW platform (official control software for Unipi PLC programming) and a MySQL or MariaDB database. The communication runs using the SSCP protocol; a proprietary protocol designed specifically for Mervis. That said, the SSCP-SQL Bridge will be useful mainly in the following applications:

1) you do not wish to send data from your PLC to a Mervis DB cloud database
2) you do not want to run your own Mervis DB instance
3) you have your own MySQL/MariaDB database and you want it to communicate with a PLC

The application can run either directly on your PLC or an external device or server, supporting the following operations:

  1. SELECT = reads data from a specified DB row and saves it to variables on the PLC
  2. UPDATE = reads data from the PLC and saves it into a specific DB row
  3. INSERT = reads data from the PLC and saves it as a new DB row

If you use the application on an external device or server, the communication uses a direct IP connection with the PLC. Currently, we are also working on an indirect communication option, in which the application communicates with the PLC using the Mervis Proxy service. This will allow you to send data from the PLC to a database server located in a different geographical location.

The application is distributed for free as a binary Debian package for Debian 9 and Debian 10 and is compatible with the x64 and ARM platforms (arm64 and armhf platforms are currently supported). A quick-start guide is available on the Unipi Knowledge Base.
